This is a Christmas quilt I made for a friend of mine, and almost didn't finish in time for Christmas. It was easy, though a bit time-consuming to come up with right fabrics (particularly the large and small scale pine prints), though that might be because I'm picky about my fabric selection. You can download the PDF file for the pattern for free here (it will take time to get it, since it's a full-color PDF file). I should note here: this is an outside link to Timeless Treasures' website, as the free pattern is copyright by Karen Montgomery and Timeless Treasures, complete with fabric recommendations and yardage requirements.
As you can see, I chose slightly different fabrics for a different feel for this quilt. My tree turned out a bit darker than the pattern, and I chose burgundy and lots of metallic prints for a little flair. (I also skipped the nutmeg colored tree shadow at the base of the tree.)
For quilting, I did a free-motion leafy pattern for the tree, and then a stipple pattern for the background. The back of the quilt is a Michael Miller Fairy Frost in dark brown. (I added a personalized label before quilt assembly.)
I also added some iron-on rhinestones for embellishment as a star topper ornament, and also throughout the quilt, after the quilt was complete.

Hi Alison. Emily from Timeless Treasures fabrics here. Your Bargello tree quilt looks great. I shared your blog posting with Karen Montgomery, the quilt designer, who also enjoyed seeing your version. By the way, Karen actually owns the copyright to this pattern and we distribute it for free with her permission for one year only. In the future, instead of putting our pdfs on your blog, could you just link to our site for people to download a free pattern? This will help us to protect the rights of the designers who devote many hours to creating the designs that you and other quilters enjoy. Thanks and keep checking our site for new designs and fabrics!
Hi Emily,
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my quilt.
The link to the PDF file *is* actually a link to the Timeless Treasures website, and the PDF file is not posted directly on my blog. So as soon as you take it down from your website, it won't work from my blog either.
Just to clarify, I added the italicized and bold copyright statement for my readers as well. Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes--especially not for such a terrific free pattern!
Is there anyway to get this pattern? It appears it is no longer available on line.
Hi Colleen. Since this was a one-year licence for Timeless Treasures to print Karen Montogomery's quilt pattern, and my original post was in Jan '09, your best bet would be to contact Karen Montgomery herself.
As she designs fabrics for Timeless Treasures and owns a quilt shop, I bet she may also sell patterns. Her is a link to her online store, I hope:
